▶︎PAINKILLERS WITHOUT THE POISON?
I'm dealing with a torn, angry rotator cuff that makes sleep, showering, driving, and hooking behind-the-back bra straps a beeeeeotch.
Trying to keep inflammation down and manage pain has been hit-and-miss. I'm not a fan of painkillers (OTC or prescription) and steroids for the obvious reasons and because:
- Multiple studies have now linked chronic use of painkillers like ibuprofen with an increased risk of heart attack and stroke (up tp 50%). NSAIDs have been shown to inhibit the production of a molecule called prostacyclin that relaxes blood vessels and “unglues” platelets. Second, they have been shown to inhibit the production of nitric oxide.
The good news. In this study, 1g of curcumin/phytosome supplement (Meriva®) for three months caused arthritis symptoms to drop 58% and quadrupled mobility. Other studies have shown taking 2g of Meriva had the pain reduction equal to that of taking 800mg of ibuprofen.
