Psychedelics for Addiction and Depression?

Posted by on

Aloha, friends!

Three quick, cool things before you head into the weekend and...
....did you know Doritos corn chips start camp fires better than kindling? Good to know if you're stuck in the sticks with soggy firewood. Bad to know if they're in your belly.
I've been stuck at a 65lb one rep max weighted pull up and would like to get to 70 by the end of this month.
No matter your ability or goals, join me and some other Sisters of Strength in using Pavel Tsatsouline's Russian Pull Up Program for the next 30 days. All the info is here on the No Fail blog. 'Tis free!
▶︎What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence
My one and only foray into psychedelic use was neither clinically managed nor well researched or supervised. Granted, I was 17. Ahhh.... to be old and wise you must first be young and stupid?
Almost thirty years later, I can't put down Michael Pollan's new book, How to Change Your Mind (links to Amazon). Definitely a gripping read for the open-minded.
From the publisher:
A brilliant and brave investigation into the medical and scientific revolution taking place around psychedelic drugs--and the spellbinding story of his own life-changing psychedelic experiences
When Michael Pollan set out to research how LSD and psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) are being used to provide relief to people suffering from difficult-to-treat conditions such as depression, addiction and anxiety, he did not intend to write what is undoubtedly his most personal book. But upon discovering how these remarkable substances are improving the lives not only of the mentally ill but also of healthy people coming to grips with the challenges of everyday life, he decided to explore the landscape of the mind in the first person as well as the third. Thus began a singular adventure into various altered states of consciousness, along with a dive deep into both the latest brain science and the thriving underground community of psychedelic therapists.
We talk a lot about physique transformation here but any true change encapsulates the whole of our beings: intellectual, emotional/spiritual, then physical. The body follows the mind.
I am so in awe of the women I get to work with every day who commit to taking themselves to the next level against all odds.
Here is one badass mamma jamma who finished her SystemShred 1:1 journey after a major medical setback over the winter--- while raising five kids and working full time.
Some of the collateral beauty is her partner also lost twenty pounds because of her nutritional choices and her kids are eating healthier, too!
